Next Stop.... Washington DC

After we left Virginia Beach we decided to take a short 4 hour drive over to Washington DC and spend a few days.  We decided we could not be that close to it and not go. Mr Fix-It had never been and I had only been once and only for a day so we were both really excited to get to see the city together with our little ones.  We stayed in a really nice campground in College Park Maryland. http://www.cherryhillpark.com/
The only bad thing I can say about this trip is that the weather wasn't all that great while we were there. We were never rained out, but it was cool and dreary and not the sunny days that I pictured we'd have while exploring. Because we stayed outside of DC we took the Metro into the city each day and oh what adventures we had.

I must say...for Alabama folk, with 2 kids, and a double stroller, we did VERY well getting to where we were wanting to go! :)
Our first stop was the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum.  There was so many cool things there and K even enjoyed taking it all in.

When we left there we decided to head and see what we could see on foot. It was overcast but it wasn't too cool and it made for great pictures.

The Asian's LOVED Little K and her blonde hair and blue eyes!!! She was like a celebrity... :))

The next day we decided to go to the National Zoo. It was a really great place and best of all it was FREE! Mr Fix-It joked though and said that they make up for the FREE by charging a fortune at the food places at the zoo. We did a lot of walking and had tons of fun!

After we left there we took a bus over to Georgetown and visited Georgetown Cupcakes.  We had heard from a friend that when they went there were long lines but since it was late afternoon when we made it there, we were able to walk right in.  We had no idea just how good the cupcakes that our mouths were watering for would be.

The next day was our last full day before we started our drive home.  We decided to go see the White House and the Washington Monument.

K put on a show and Mr Fix-It wanted to put out a cup to collect money for her, but I wouldn't let him! :))

The next day we said goodbye to DC and started home.  We stopped at the same campground on the way home and spent the night before finally making it HOME SWEET HOME on Saturday.  We were gone for a total of 11 days and 10 nights and I could have stayed 11 more days and 10 more nights! We weren't ready to come home, but we are happy to be here!
